Book Review: “The Hobbit” by J.R.R. Tolkien

I know this is probably an unpopular view, and I don't know why it is, but I find when I read Tolkien my mind loves to wander. I love his stories, I love his characters, I love the movies based off his books, but I lose focus when reading his books. It took me a while to figure it out but I believe it's because there is little dialogue compared to description of adventure. I think I'm a reader who thrives off character interaction, and sometimes I would read two whole chapters in The Hobbit where there was only a line or two of dialogue.

Behind the Series: Chronicles of a Supernatural Huntsman

With my epic YA Urban Fantasy series coming to an end this November, I thought I would start a blog series called "Behind the Series". And which better series to kick it off with than Chronicles of a Supernatural Huntsman? It was the first series I ever started writing and has captured my mind and heart for ten years now. It's bittersweet to bring this story to an end, but I have some spinoffs in mind, so it it's more of a The End...? I will say, this WILL be the end of Kamlyn's story. And just so you know, while the beginning of this article does not contain spoilers, when I get into the breakdowns for each book they might, so if you'd like to read the books before knowing the details, I recommend doing that first!

Book Review: “The Once and Future Witches” by Alix E. Harrow

This was a big book that blended magic and Salem history beautifully! I am happy I chose it for my Halloween read this year. It's a story of many things; witches and suffragettes, love and evil, motherhood and sisterhood. So many themes run through this well-thought out novel that it kept the pages turning furiously for me.

This was such a great continuation of Nightmare Before Christmas. I'm always a little nervous when additions to a classic are done, but this one was done right. Sally ventures into a new door, a door into Dreamtown, where she learns about her dark past.

Book Review: A Secret History of Witches by Louisa Morgan

This was not the typical witch story I thought I was going to be getting when I picked this up. Wanting a story of magic and maybe even some scares, this was nothing like that but still it did not disappoint. This is a fantastic story of mothers and daughters...with a little magic tossed in here and there. If you like Alice Hoffman, you'll love Louisa Morgan!
