“Despite being a novella, Dead Beginnings is packed with action. One aspect of the zombie world Lonnie finds himself in that I found refreshing was that he doesn’t have an endless supply of ammo and other resources at his disposal. He had to improvise on the fly to a rapidly changing environment and learn tough lessons in the process. I would have given the book 5 stars but Lonnie’s initially impersonal attitude rubbed me the wrong way. He overcomes that character flaw by the end though, and begins to assume a more likeable role. I will say that his carelessness “should” catch up to him if not kept in check.”
